Alexandre Da Costa, soloist and conductor in more than 2 thousand concerts on four continents and more than 30 countries in the most prestigious places in the world, will perform in Mazatlán during the Evening of the Arts, on Saturday, February 3rd at 8:00 p.m. at the Ángela Peralta Theater.

The conductor and virtuoso violinist who plays a 1701 Stradivarius Di Barbaro violin using a Sartory bow, will be the star performer during the Evening of the Arts, a ceremony to celebrate the delivery of the Mazatlán Literature Prize 2024, an award that enhances the cultural program of Carnaval Internacional Mazatlán “Eclipse Barroco”.

Da Costa, current Director of the Quebec Philharmonic Orchestra, will conduct musicians from the Camerata Mazatlán during the Stradivarius Barock Symphonique concert.

The intelligent selection of Da Costa’s operatic repertoire navigates between Bizet and Wagner, stopping at Falla, Puccini, Strauss, Prokofiev or Massenet and he has given moments of resounding exaltation, one looking at Freddie Mercury with “Lo spettacolo deve andare avanti” and another reminding us that Canon is always present in the essence of all nature with a captivating interpretation of the Rhapsody on a theme by Vitali in its transcription by F. Chiasson.

Alexandre Da Costa showed an unusual interest in the violin and the piano at a very young age.

Winner of numerous national and international first prizes, including the Pablo Sarasate International Violin Competition, Alexandre Da Costa has given nearly 2,000 concerts and recitals throughout North America, Europe, Australia and Asia.

He has performed in major venues in Vienna (Musikverein), Berlin (Philharmonie), New York (Carnegie Hall), Beijing (Poly-Theater) and beyond. He participated and recorded as a guest soloist and conductor with over 100 different orchestras, including the Royal Philharmonic of London, the Vienna, Berlin, Montreal and Toronto Symphony Orchestras, the Dresden, Bergen, Buffalo and Prague Philharmonic Orchestras, the BBC Concert Orchestra, the National Radio and Television Orchestra of Spain, the YOA Orchestra of the Americas and many more.

Alexandre is also considered an expert in the field of rare violins, having analyzed and used more than 1000 instruments from makers such as Stradivarius, Guarnerius del Gesù, Amati, etc.
