The Instituto de Cultura, Turismo y Arte de Mazatlán deeply regrets the death of the maestro Antonio López Sáenz, his figure is emblematic because he leaves us something more than art, he leaves us the characteristics of his personality, he leaves us with simplicity, consistency and love for the land, dedicating himself to a city that he loved deeply as his parents and grandparents loved it, said Raúl Rico González.

Faced with the unfortunate death of the renowned Sinaloan fine artist, the General Director of CULTURA expressed that the paintings of Mtro. Antonio López Sáenz portrays us all, an intimate x-ray of each Mazatleco and of the generations that preceded us.

He is a man who behaved uprightly, his talent flourished, empathetic with the Mazatlecos and his causes, he affirmed.

“His work transcends him because it is a universal legacy, his work has crossed borders, all of us who inhabit this city and state reflect on his art.”

Internationally renowned painter and sculptor, Antonio López Sáenz, is by far the most important fine artist in Sinaloa. His perfectly defined aesthetics have been appreciated in the most important museums and galleries.

In his work, a nostalgic vision of the Mazatlecan environment of the mid-century is frequently manifested.

To honor the talent and simplicity of the artist and to establish a diagnosis of fine arts in the Northwest of Mexico, CULTURA created a painting award that bears his name to distinguish the best works of fine artists from Sinaloa, Sonora, Baja California Norte and the South and Nayarit.

The significance of his art and the respect earned in the port were decisive for Maestro Antonio López Sáenz to be named Honorary Patron of the Faro Mazatlán Natural Park in December 2021.

In his works, we see memories trapped in memory; “Personal experiences” as his friend José Luis Cuevas once told him, a look that evokes the past of Mazatlán, recreated by men and women with voluminous bodies and small heads without features.

Maestro López Sáenz managed to exhibit in various states of the Mexican Republic; in Washington, Detroit, Miami, San Francisco, San Antonio, Chicago, Madrid, Lisbon, Zurich and Paris, among others.

In 2014, moved to tears, López Sáenz received the Doctorate Honoris Causa, awarded by the Autonomous University of Sinaloa.

In 2005, his work was the image of the Mazatlán Caribbean Series and Carnavl Mazatlán that same year and the sculpture “Así nos agarró el Milenio”, known as “Monument to the Family” is part of the tourist attractions of the port.
