As of today, it bears the name of maestro Marco Lugo.
Starting this Friday, Mazatlán has an advanced movie theater with the latest in image and sound technology: “El Cinematografo” of the Municipal Arts Center of the Instituto de Cultura de Mazatlán, which as of today bears the name of maestro Marco Lugo, who for 29 years was in charge of this project.
The Mayor of Mazatlán, Edgar González Zatarain, reopened the movie theater in the company of Raúl Rico González, General Director of the Instituto de Cultura, Turismo y Arte de Mazatlán; from Liliana Aréchiga, Educational Director of the CMA, and from maestro Marco Lugo, who, excitedly, thanked for the distinction in recognition of almost three decades as a promoter and faithful watchdog of the operation of the Cinematograph, a space for the dissemination and study of good cinema.
The Cinematograph will reopen its doors this Saturday, November 11th after being closed due to work to improve its facilities.
462,815 pesos were invested in equipment, granted by the Federal Ministry of Culture through the Mexican Institute of Cinematography: A laser projector was installed, a new audio system was purchased and the walls of the room were covered with acoustic insulation material.
Cultura Mazatlán renewed the carpeting, the electrical installations, acquired a Laptop to control the equipment, waterproofed the room and repaired the seats.
In his speech, Mayor Edgar González considered that these spaces must have continuous coexistence, asked that the (cinematography) workshops return, and expressed his approval that what began with some modest chairs, today becomes a real, very good, equipped cinema.
The Municipal President thanked Raúl (Rico) for persisting in these issues, and congratulated those who promote the projection of art cinema, especially maestro Marco Lugo because today the Cinematographer bears his name, but also for his entire career.
Present in the room, maestro Lugo highlighted that one of the most important satisfactions and distinctions for him is that every Saturday he presented art films, content films at the Cinematograph and the spectators gave him great satisfaction every Saturday with their applause.
“Another satisfaction is that the City Council has supported me professionally for 25 years, (I thank) my friend Héctor Guardado, Ricardo Urquijo (+), Mr. Raúl Rico, because he always gave me support, and if ever he doesn’t “It was because I didn’t ask for it, I thank the Mazatlán City Council, the Instituto de he Cultura and all of you,” expressed the heartfelt movie buff.
Raúl Rico expressed that Maestro Lugo gave continuity to a project that Héctor Guardado and other people had started at the Cinemas Acuario, from then on good cinema took over the theaters and infected the city.
“What Maestro Lugo did is give formality to that project, giving it support to know what the cinematographic message is, what is behind a script and what is intended and he left a school that has now continued and has also borne fruit.” , we already have some Mazatlan film directors and producers, today we are going to see a film directed by Leticia Fabián and Alan Jonsson Gavica, they made a film with Ignacio López Tarso titled “Good morning, Ignacio” that won the Best International Short Film Award in the San Diego International Film,” he highlighted.
Julio Recinos, enthusiastic promoter of the project for the rehabilitation of the CMA Cinematograph, described that the Marco Lugo room is equipped with the latest in audio and projection and starting this Saturday, November 11th, it will reopen its doors again with the projection of the film “Pan’s Labyrinth” by Mexican director and screenwriter Guillermo del Toro.
