Five identities stand out in the conformation of the Sinaloan population perceived in its main economic activities, gastronomy, traditions and cultural features.

When speaking about “Urban images of young people in Mazatlán in the last 60 years”, teacher and researcher Ismael Alvarado stressed that drug culture is not an identity element of the entire Sinaloan geography.

Before an audience of different ages gathered in Plazuela Machado, Alvarado was the main speaker of “Dialogues of our History”, a program promoted by the Instituto de Cultura de Mazatlán.

According to the researcher in Sinaloa there are five identities: north of Nayarit they have more attachment or influence to the coastal; In Concordia, Rosario, Cosalá, San Ignacio, El Fuerte, there are traits of Spanish culture, and they still practice some activities such as mining, it is a closed identity with few social changes and very marked historical processes.

From Guasave to the north, agriculture gives identity to the region, there is planning and organization in the planting cycles, people go to sleep between 10 and 11 at night and get up to work from 5 in the morning.

The inhabitants of Culiacán, the state capital, are identified as the partygoers, the fanned, altered, etc.

Before the 60’s, Culiacán was divided by the river, but after the 60’s it expanded, economic, social and cultural development was generated and a particular identity began to be built.

The fifth identity is that of the young Mazatlecos. Mazatlán has its geographical attractions and economic activities different from other municipalities.

Ismael Alvarado highlighted the changes that this city has experienced since the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s, during which time it became a paradise of beautiful beaches, which due to its attractions became a favorite place for North American tourists. The development of the hotel industry in the 80s strengthened its economy, but from the 90s, according to the researcher, the destination began to decline and was transformed by cultural influences from other places.
