Dozens of attendees spent a fun afternoon at the presentation Dialogues of our History, with the participation of actor Gaspar Velarde who personified the jewel of Escuinapa, Florencio Villa, better known as “Güilo” Mentiras .

For more than an hour the audience laughed non-stop with the stories that were captured by writer Dámaso Murúa, who in his youth met Florencio, a thin character, a fisherman by trade, who with singular joy and charisma told stories about his neighborhood, of his city, making whoever listened to him happy.

It was approximately 20 years ago when Gaspar Velarde decided to portray himself as ‘Güilo Mentiras’, a decision that fills him with happiness, since this character is unique in Mexico, he has been compared to Don Quixote de la Mancha, it has been his most important acting decision and will continue to do it with pride.

“I chose someone from our south of Sinaloa, and it seemed extraordinary to me, when I started doing it, to bring it to life, I said I shouldn’t say it with my voice, I have to change the tone, so, I loved it, I fell in love with it so much that since then I tell, I continue to tell ‘Güilo Mentiras’ and with that same responsibility, because to give life to something you have to love it,” he said.

A topic that came up in the talk was that the character of ‘Güilo Mentiras’ has been so representative, that the stories from the books have been taken to the notebooks and to the recording studios where the Haíku group, and even Elisa Pérez Meza, created themes inspired by the character.
In the round of questions and answers, the attendees congratulated the actor on his career and questioned literature, the myths that are said about Florencio Villa, and asked that he tell part of his life, a request answered by the guest of the afternoon.

Accompanied by poet from the port, María Félix Raygoza, ‘Güilo Mentiras’ narrated some of his stories with singular joy: “La vaca perra”, “Coralillo”, “El infierno”, “La cochi boarí” and concluded the talk with “El tigre ensillado”, achieving intense applause amidst laughter from the audience, concluding each story with the immortal phrase “jamacito miento”.
