After an end-of-year break, this Saturday, January 13th, the “Marco Lugo” Cinema of the Municipal Arts Center returns to activity with the film “Tótem” directed by the Mexican Lila Avilés. The appointment is at 6:00 p.m., free entry.

This feature film is a co-production between Mexico-France-Denmark and is competing to represent Mexico in the next Oscars for best foreign film.

Sol, played by Naíma Senties, is a seven-year-old girl who goes to visit her grandfather’s house to celebrate the birthday party of her father, who is sick with cancer and can celebrate for the last time. That day, more than a simple celebration, becomes a moment of family confrontation and reflection, reminding us of the importance of our foundations.

Despite the diverse circumstances they face, the film immerses us in the palpable union between loved ones. From the individual beliefs of each family member, whether in clean calls or in the connection with the stars, the story highlights that everything is valid when we face the possibility of losing those we love.

“Totem” had its world premiere on February 20th, 2023 at the Berlin International Film Festival. In April it competed at the Hong Kong International Film Festival, where it won the Firebird Award for best film in the Young Cinema Competition World category.
The film is projected in its original language, Spanish.
Admission will be free by entering through the main door located on Calle Carnaval S/N in front of Plazuela Machado, it will open 20 minutes before the performance.
