Projections of the Cycle: “Serenity” continue this Saturday, September 21 at 7:00 p.m. at the Cinema at Casa Hass with the film “Nebraska” (2013), by director Alexander Payne, nominated for the Golden Palm and with which Bruce Dern was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor.

A road movie that tries to make sense of the quixotic life of “Woody Grant” (Bruce Dern), a veteran alcoholic who, when receiving a magazine subscription book by mail with his name, is considered the lucky winner of a raffle of one million dollars, and is determined to travel across the US to collect the grand prize.

“Woody” is determined to go alone, although he finally finds a travel companion in his youngest son, “David”, who has recently ended his relationship, so he realizeshy , why not take a trip with the old man who was a bad father and enjoy his senile fantasy?

“Nebraska” is full of complicated people marked by failures, mistakes and regrets driven by selfishness. The choice of filming in black and white by Payne’s frequent cinematographer, Phedon Papamichael (“Sideways” and “The Descendants”) makes the predominant sense of melancholy and decay of history while avoiding nostalgia stand out.

The film is screened in its original English language with Spanish subtitles, free entry with limited space.
