Made up of iconic melodies from the United Kingdom, the Camerata Mazatlán directed on this occasion by Maestro Gordon Campbell, gave a memorable concert at the Ángela Peralta Theater during the penultimate date of the Gordon Campbell Season 2023.
True to his style, maestro Campbell began the musical show entitled “Hail Britannia”, with his narrative in which he highlighted that a musical journey would be offered with songs composed by British composers from England, and sub-colonies in Australia, India, among other latitudes.
The first surprise of the afternoon was with the piece “Trumpet volunteer”, the work of Jeremiah Clarke, where soloist Jorge Mejía gave spoke on his abilities, reaping applause on a song composed centuries ago and that generations continue to like; the sublime piece was performed at the Royal Wedding of the Princes of Wales: Carlos and Diana.
Trumpet Tune”, by Clarke, where Mejía’s trumpet sounded phenomenal again was added to this list of good music.
Henry Purcell was remembered when the musicians performed “Rondeau”; Thanks to the energy emanating from the piece “Entrance of the Queen of Shiba”, the public was moved and recognized the dedication of the musicians.
Pianist José Miguel Rivera had an outstanding participation when interpreting “Variations on God Save the King”, a melody composed by the illustrious Ludwig van Beethoven.
The fine notes of the flutes of Frida Fernández and the guest David Aguilar shone when the Camerata played the piece “Fantasia on Greensleeves”.
In the second part of the concert, composers such as: Vaughn Williams, Percy Grainger, Thomas Tallis, Stephen Konz were remembered, closing a vibrant musical afternoon.
