“La vida cotidiana de Fran” [Fran’s daily life], stories from the parents and sister of an autistic person, written by Arturo Santamaría Gómez and Alessandra Santamaría López, printed with the sponsorship of the Technological University of Escuinapa, was presented Thursday night at the Angela Peralta Gallery.

The presentation was given by Dr. Eneyda Rocha Ruiz, President of the Sinaloan DIF System and maestro Rodrigo Graciano; The Municipal President of Mazatlán, Edgar González, and his wife María Teresa Apodaca Muñoz, president of the municipal DIF System, attended as special guests. The moderator of the event was maestro Enrique Vega Ayala, Director of Planning of the Instituto de Cultura, Tourism and Art of Mazatlán.

During her intervention, Dr. Eneyda Rocha highlighted that reading “La vida cotidiana de Fran” allows us to look into the complex world of people with the autism spectrum, which in the 21st century continues to be an unfinished subject in the medical profession and in science.

In front of the young Francisco Miguel Santamaría López who inspired this story and his mother Sandra López de Santamaría, the public servant congratulated Arturo for this excellent book written with an immersive narrative, capable of provoking feelings of understanding, tolerance and love in the reader, and thanked the Santamaría López family and those who responded to their first calls to raise awareness among the authorities, families with similar problems, medical groups and Sinaloa society, because by acting together we can substantially improve the quality of life of those who face the Disorder of the Autistic spectrum.

The President of the state DIF, thanked all for the invitation to be part of the presentation of this story and expressed a fraternal, supportive greeting and congratulations from the Governor of Sinaloa, Dr. Rubén Rocha Moya, “lifelong friend of this exemplary family.”

In her speech, Dr. Eneyda Rocha recognized the effort and tireless work of Fran’s family for embracing the project of promoting the opening of an institution for the treatment of boys and girls with autism, which led to the creation of the Fundación Unicornio, the first clinic specialized in providing therapy for infants with autism in Sinaloa.

Dr. Eneyda highlighted the work carried out by Arturo and Sandra together with fathers and mothers suffering from the autism of their sons and daughters, to bring international specialists in the analysis of the behavior of autistic people and thereby train the first local therapists in Sinaloa.

He added that DIF Sinaloa in its Autism Center currently serves around 3,100 boys and girls, numbers that will increase with the launch of the CRIT Teletón that will open its doors in Mazatlán, as a tribute, -although not intended- to the Santamaría López family.

About the book he commented that: “Fran’s daily life confronts us with a topic that is not the usual intellectual exercise of analysis and penetrating criticism that Arturo Santamaría has accustomed us to, it is a reflection and a look made with the eyes of the heart since it is about Fran, his son, and Sandra, the mother.”

“Here you can read the voices of tenderness, of Fran’s father, mother, sister: Arturo, Sandra and Alessandra, respectively,” said the President of DIF-Sinaloa.

Rocha Ruiz mentioned that for the comprehensive and adequate treatment of autism, the DIF Sinaloa System has trained more than 500 teachers so that schools are truly inclusive and workshops are given for mothers and fathers of sons and daughters with autism, among other actions to support to homes where there are people with this disorder.

In turn, maestro Rodrigo Graciano commented that “Fran’s Everyday Life” is a fascinating, fantastic text, through whose pages emotions jump from sadness to joy and stressed that the openness of the authors’ hearts is greater than the book.

The book narrates the odyssey that the Santamaría López had to experience, the trips of Arturo and Sandra to Culiacán, Mexico City, the United States, Argentina and even Europe in search of medical help to improve the quality of life of their son Fran, diagnosed with autism, he added.

Arturo Santamaría Gómez, co-author of the work – Alessandra Santamaría López could not attend – thanked Dr. Eneyda Rocha for the presence and announced that the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, will soon come to inaugurate the care center for autistic children. and with other disabilities, something very important for Sinaloa because it will be possible to address this syndrome in a multifaceted manner and from various specialties.

He indicated that the proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated to Mrs. Sebastiana, mother of a 64-year-old son who was paralyzed a long time ago and she is his only support, and to San Juanita, 24 years old who suffers from cerebral palsy and lives with many economic needs.
