The traditional Callejoneada to celebrate Dia de Muertos produced by the Instituto Municipal de Cultura, Turismo y Arte de Mazatlán, began at eight o’clock at night, the Municipal President of Mazatlán, Edgar González Zatarain and his wife María Teresa Apodaca de González looked happy and excited as they led the celebration.

When passing through Plaza Machado, hundreds of families were already placed in order and the Sinaloan band started shouting and applauding with the song “El Sinaloense”, the first cuetones detonated in the sky while the attendees asked with great spirit for the Mayor to dance with his wife, they obliged with some steps so that the royal procession could also join in their joy.

The candidates for Carnaval queen and king wore their bands with pride and as they made their way through the people who packed the streets of Centro Historico, “El Corrido de Mazatlán” played and the tourists had big smiles on their faces and seemed fascinated. with the fiesta.

The night was warm and the traditional glass of beer was enjoyed without making a single gesture, the fire jugglers caused great amazement in the infantrymen, the personnel assigned to security, organization and logistics tasks fulfilled from beginning to end without incident with fire used throughout the event.

Troupes of catrinas and folk dances cheered and danced non-stop, there were stilt walkers dressed for the occasion and a tremendous batucada made the percussions felt on the body. Throughout the tour there was a large tourist presence and many of them were dressed up as skeletons and catrinas with diadems of flowers on their heads.

Luis Antonio Ríos’ Catrina “El Momo” impressed all attendees with its sparkling golden colors, marigolds, fuchsia and lilac flowers with skulls covered in diamonds, and in the center, an imposing living figure that advanced the illuminated work. monumental, which completely attracted all cell phone cameras in selfie mode and in panorama mode.

CULTURA set up stages on Heriberto Frías street, between Constitución and Sixto Osuna, and another on Niño Héroes street between Constitución and Mariano Escobedo where students from the Theater and Classical Ballet school managed to transmit their passion for art.

Throughout the entire route, the traditional Callejoneada of Dia de Muertos was very crowded, there was dancing, smiling, shouting, admiration, celebration, but above all it was remembered that death is a theme of inspiration for all Mexican artistic manifestations and that as Octavio Paz wrote “The cult of life, if it is truly profound and total, is also the cult of death. Both are inseparable. “A civilization that denies death ends up denying life.”
