Intense and daring was the work “Los ojos abiertos de ella” [her open eyes], a performance presented by the Pájaro Mosca Company on the second night of the José Limón International Dance Festival, performed before a select audience in the Angela Peralta Theater.

The choreographer and performer Noemí Sánchez was the star of the night; the artist showed a one-person work inspired by the play of the same name by Uruguayan Raquel Diana.

This interdisciplinary proposal arose from the encounter of the text with the body, an account of the fears and memories faced by a woman who dialogues with death, developed in a dreamlike universe, a limbo built with simple and symbolic elements, which that she goes through to reconstruct moments of her life, dreams and unfinished projections of what could have been or was.

From the first second, the artist captured everyone’s attention, while everyone was waiting for the performance to begin on stage, the dancer surprised the audience by beginning her participation sitting among the seats, exclaiming, to later take off her clothes and start this dance journey.

The work is a framework that connects and sustains all the elements: dance, music, objects, visuals, scenery and lighting, and from the movement of the body a sensitive and empathetic discourse is achieved with the audience, earning respect and ovations at the end of the show.

This piece of contemporary dance featured the creative production of director Fernando Leija, wardrobe coordination by Grace González, set design by Diana Mora, lighting effects by Shriely Benavidades and music editing by Pablo Vargas, talent distributed among artists from Costa Rica and Mexico.
