The twinning between the municipalities of Mazatlán, Sinaloa, and Dolores Hidalgo, Guanajuato, began its forging more than 70 years ago in an artistic and cultural way, when contemporary artists representative of these entities from the fifties, fused lyrics and the traditional music of Banda, where the name of José Alfredo Jiménez appeared, a person who influenced the enhancement of the Puerto del Pacífico by perfectly describing the natives of this city, as was considered by the Mayor, Químico Luis Guillermo Benitez Torres.

At a press conference held at the Angela Peralta Gallery, the Municipal President thanked the descendants of the considered king of ranchera music for this contribution and the joint work carried out for decades.

In the events that mark the twinning, musical artists and artisans gave the details of the statue that was unveiled in Paseo Olas Altas, and reaffirms the importance of Don José Alfredo Jiménez.

José Alfredo Jiménez Jr. indicated that his father fell in love with Mazatlán and composed the corrido in 1954, while in 1968 it was recorded with band music.

Among his words of gratitude, “I already own a little piece of Mazatlán, and it is where the statue where my father will be installed, I thank the Mayor for this enormous recognition.”

Statue donated by businessman Pepe Quiroz and was installed in Paseo Olas Altas.
