On the night of Thursday, September 14th, Trío Maestoso performed at Casa Haas with a recital of music for piano, flute and French horn.

Trío Maestoso was formed because the three members are colleagues who work at the Higher School of Music of Juárez University of the State of Durango and they are colleagues and it occurred to them to form a group to present work of this type, reported Rocío González Benítez, a native pianist from Mazatlán, Sinaloa and who graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Piano at the Faculty of Music of the Universidad Veracruzana.

At the beginning of the concert, Rocío González welcomed the attendees and said that the repertoire to be performed was made up of contemporary pieces from the 20th and 21st centuries with authors such as Cécil Chaminade and Eugene Bozza. Also starring were Mel Bonis, Eric Ewasen and Shao Ying Low.

Flutist Gessael García Picazo, originally from Chignahuapan, Puebla, and who has performed in Europe and in various stages of the Mexican Republic, mentioned that the name ‘Trío Maestoso’ is derived from a word used to describe a context, a landscape, maestoso means in majestic Italian, and it is also a play on words, a word that comes from the musical context.

Iván Rogelio Vázquez, a Bachelor of Music with an emphasis on French horn, winner of the scholarship from the Program to Stimulate Artistic Creation and Development (PECDA) 2016-2017 with the project: “The French horn through history,” explained that Musical pieces that were selected and exploit all the characteristics that the instrument has, different techniques that are rarely used, usually in the orchestra, which is normally where the French horn plays.
“And these techniques in this type of piece can be appreciated more, they are metallic sounds that are made with the hands, with some effects and we decided that people can learn a little more about the pieces and the potential that each instrument has, the piano, the flute and the French horn and precisely that is why they chose that type of repertoire.”

Trio Maestoso will be present in mid-October at the “Revueltas Festival” in Durango.
