Concert to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the priestly life of the Bishop of the Diocese of Mazatlán, Mario Espinosa Contreras

Mazatlán, Sinaloa, March 3, 2023.- Instituto Municipal de Cultura, Turismo y Arte de Mazatlán and the Diocese of Mazatlán invited all to attend “Te Deum Laudamos” a great concert with a truly spectacular program to thanks the wonderful Gift of music to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the priestly ordination of Monsignor Mario Espinosa Contreras.

The Bishop of the Diocese of Mazatlán presided over a press conference this Wednesday morning at Casa Haas to invite all to the golden celebration in the company of the General Director of CULTURA, Raúl Rico González.

The concert will be on May 11th at 7:30 p.m. at the Ángela Peralta Theater and that day at 12:00 p.m. In the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, Cardinal Carlos Aguiar Retes, Archbishop of Mexico will offer a thanksgiving mass in which the Bishops of Gómez Palacio and El Salto, Durango and Tepic, Nayarit will be present.

Raúl Rico thanked the media for their presence and stressed that for the Instituto de Cultura it is a very pleasant experience to be able to musically celebrate the golden anniversary of the priestly ordination of Bishop Mario Espinosa Contreras.

“It is a truly spectacular program, I think it will be one of the most important concerts of the year, it has great weight musically and also with the meaning it now acquires in this celebration it becomes a very valuable element for the union of the Mazatlecans,” he said.

The General Director of CULTURA specified that it will be an event open to the entire population, because the program is music and celebration for the spirit.

“It is a transition that is made from Tchaikovsky’s Concerto No. 1 to Pietro Mascagni’s Intermezzo de la Cavallería Rusticana, an opera that was made around the celebration of Easter and we have the Polovtsian Dances of Prince Igor by composer Aleksandr Porfírievich Borodín, with two intertwined works that are monumental and the 4th Movement of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, which is a song of freedom that is used in religious celebrations as a symbol of peace”.

The Camerata Mazatlán, the Ángela Peralta Choir and the Guillermo Sarabia Choir participate under the baton of guest conductor Sergio Freeman.

The Bishop of Mazatlán, Mario Espinosa Contreras stressed that music is one of the richest experiences of Christian and universal art.

“Music always elevates the spirit, ennobles people, motivates us. It makes us better, it encourages us to be more peaceful and balanced, which is why we are joyfully looking forward to this Te Deum Laudamos concert,” he said.

The Bishop affirmed that musical culture is a “very beautiful” reality in Mazatlán, the cradle of great musicians trained at the Municipal Arts Center and who now play in different cities.

Priest Amador Campos expressed that music elevates the spirit and “Te Deum Laudamos” intends to be a gift from the Diocese to the Bishop of Mazatlán to celebrate with him because he has been a priest for 50 years.

He anticipated that important guests are coming and it will be a party for all the priests and for the entire Diocese.

Priest Daniel Arellano invited all believers and non-believers to live that experience of God through music.

“We thank the Bishop because with his example he allows us to be grateful to God and continue to persevere; and I think the concert is going to be a little piece of heaven here on Earth to be able to tell the Lord Thank you for everything he has given us”.

Priest Armando Durán Sánchez highlighted that it is a joy for the entire Diocese to celebrate the 50 years of priestly life of Bishop Mario Espinosa Contreras, and invited the people of Mazatlan to join this celebration.
